Facebook has just announced the arrival of over 60 new applications which will be able to be integrated into user profiles on the social network site. Back in September last year Facebook announced the new platform Open Graph at the f8 conference which also brought with it the arrival of Timeline. Timeline opened opportunities for third party app developers to build new Facebook apps.
Facebook Apps
The new Facebook apps come in a variety of categories and there really is something for everyone. These are some of the best Facebook apps I have seen thus far and really take sharing to a whole new level. Users will be able to share anything from what they are cooking, how far they ran that day, what they are buying online and many many more daily activities with the Facebook apps. If you know anything about the Spotify, Washington Post’s Social Reader or Foursquare App you will understand the brilliance of these integrations. And until recently these were the only apps that were able to be integrated into Facebook.
To give an example, you are using TripAdvisor (now an integrated app) to write up a review on a recently visited restaurant. Once you’re done, TripAdvisor will ask if you would like to share it on Facebook. It will populate on the news feed as well as on your personal Timeline. And like most things on Facebook, it can be managed through your privacy settings.
Here are just a few of the newly integrated Facebook apps:
Runkeeper – this app is brilliant for those wanting to monitor there fitness, it tracks the routs you use then stores them. Posting on your timeline will let people know where you ran and how far you went.
Gogobot – Defiantly a top Facebook app. It works like an online passport showing your friends where you have been, reviews of attractions or restaurants while you were there and even lets you upload photos so your friends will be able to see what you saw while you were there.
Grockit – A customizable social studies tool which includes study guides and lesson plans for anyone from middle school to graduate students. Connect with Facebook friends studying the same thing. You can earn badges and boost knowledge with these courses designed by curriculum experts.
