A few weeks ago, we got info that in Q2 of 2011 Apple passed Nokia in smart phone shipments and tries to surpass Samsung as the world’s largest smartphone vendor. According to Digitimes, Apple will probably take the top spot among global smart phone vendors for the entirety of 2011. Digitimes projects that Apple will ship about 86.4 million units, and easily have better shipments results than Nokia which recorded 25% drop to under 75 million shipped devices.
Samsung has really strong growth thanks to Android based phones, but also we shouldn’t forget one of the best dual-core Android smart-phones on the market which had great sales in Europe and soon will be launched on US market through 3 carriers – Samsung Galaxy S2. Also we shouldn’t forget that Apple will launch at the end of September / beginning of October a brand new iPhone 5 which will cover high-end market, then iPhone 4s – 8GB iPhone 4 which will cover mid-segment of the market and probably cheaper iPhone 3GS which will cover low-end market.
In upcoming months Apple will probably score better shipping results than Samsung thanks to upcoming iPhone 5, 8GB iPhone 4S and much cheaper iPhone 3GS.
What you think will Apple be the world’s top smartphone vendor in 2011 or not ? Feel free to share with your opinion in comments section below.
