Foxconn replacing people with robots

Once again Foxconn hit news headlines with decision to use robots instead of humans. Earlier this year Foxconn had explosion in iPad manufacturing plant and some problems with employees. All of this with rising salary costs, made no choice for Foxconn, so they decided use robots instead of people. Already they use 10,000 robots, they aim to go up to 300,000 next year and even one million in next three years.

Foxconn founder and chariman Terry Gou says that company plans to replace portion of employees with million robots in next free years to cut rising salaries and improve efficiency. Currently Foxconn employs over 900,000 people in its factories. Chairman Terry Gou says that robots will be performing only simple tasks as welding, spraying and assembling. Right now all this tasks are being done by human workers.

Gartner analyst C.K Lu says that “If they didn’t do this they will have to move their factories elsewhere.”

Foxconn is one of the biggest world manufacters. They are assembling most of the Apple products including iPhone’s and iPad’s, also they make consumer electronics for other IT gigants such as Sony, Dell, Asus, Cisco, Nintendo etc.
